Privacy Policy
Last updated September 29, 2026
Recall is an iPhone app for keeping notes about the people in your life. It is made by NapTime Labs LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the app, and the choices you have.
The short version
- Your notes are private to your account. We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.
- To write summaries and "Prep me" briefings, we send the text of your notes to OpenAI. OpenAI does not use it to train its models.
- Recall never stores your voice recordings. Dictation turns speech into text using Apple's speech recognition.
- Recall only reads your phone's contacts when you choose to import, and it saves only the people you pick.
- You can delete your account and everything in it from Settings at any time.
What we collect
Account information
When you sign up we collect your email address. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple gives us an email address, which may be a private relay address Apple creates for you. It may also give us your name. We use this to sign you in and to contact you about your account.
What you write in Recall
This is the core of the app: the people you add (name, and optionally phone number and how you met), the notes you type or dictate, the dates of those notes, and the summaries, facts, and briefings the app creates from them. We also store your reminder settings for each person.
Because Recall is about other people, your notes will contain information about them. Please use good judgment about what you record, and avoid sensitive details that the people you write about wouldn't want written down.
Contacts
If you choose "Import from Contacts", Recall asks for permission to read your phone's contacts. The list is read on your phone so you can choose people. Only the names and the first phone number of the people you select are saved to your Recall account. Nothing else from your address book is uploaded.
Voice dictation
When you dictate a note, Recall uses Apple's built-in speech recognition to turn your speech into text. Depending on your device and settings, Apple may do this on your iPhone or on Apple's servers, under Apple's privacy policy. Recall does not record, upload, or store your audio. Only the resulting text is saved, and only if you save the note.
Purchases
Subscriptions are bought through Apple. We never see your payment card details. Apple and our subscription provider, RevenueCat, tell us whether your account has Recall Pro, which plan it is on, and when it renews or expires.
Notifications
Reminders to reach out to someone are scheduled on your iPhone as local notifications. We don't use push notification tokens or send you marketing notifications.
What we don't collect
No advertising identifiers, no location, no third-party analytics or ad trackers, and no browsing history.
How we use it
- To run the app: store your people and notes, sync them to your account, and show them to you on your devices.
- To create note summaries, key facts, and "Prep me" briefings.
- To manage your subscription and the free plan's limit.
- To respond when you contact us, and to keep the service secure and working.
We don't sell your personal information, share it for advertising, or use your notes for any purpose other than providing Recall to you.
Who helps us run Recall
We use a small number of service providers. Each one handles data only to provide its service to us.
- Supabase stores your account and everything you save in Recall, and handles sign-in.
- OpenAI processes note text, facts, and the person's name and how you met, to write summaries and briefings. Under OpenAI's API terms, this data is not used to train its models. It may be kept for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse, and is then deleted.
- Render hosts the server that sends your notes to OpenAI and saves the results.
- RevenueCat manages subscription status. It receives an anonymous account ID and your purchase history from Apple, but never your notes.
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple, speech recognition, the App Store, and payment processing.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of users or others, or as part of a merger or sale of the business. In that case this policy continues to apply to your information.
How long we keep it
We keep your people and notes until you delete them or delete your account. When you delete a note or a person, it is removed from our database right away. When you delete your account, your account and everything in it are deleted. Copies may remain in our providers' encrypted backups for a short time, up to 30 days, before they are overwritten.
Your choices and rights
- Edit or delete any person, note, or fact in the app.
- Delete your account in Settings → Delete account. This removes everything immediately.
- Get a copy of your data, or ask us any privacy question, by emailing support@hellorecall.app. We reply within 30 days.
- Turn off permissions for contacts, microphone, speech recognition, or notifications at any time in iPhone Settings → Recall.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights, such as to access, correct, or delete your data, or to object to some processing. Email us and we will honor them.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest with our providers. Access to your data is limited to your own account by database rules, and the server checks your identity on every request. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you.
Children
Recall is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
International users
We are based in the United States, and our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. By using Recall you understand that your information will be handled there.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above. If a change is significant, we will also let you know in the app before it takes effect.
